Artist’s Statement
My artwork is evolving as I return from a hiatus necessitated by life events. Educated as an artist at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, in my 20s I maintained a studio, reviewed exhibits for an arts publication where I was the visual arts editor, and taught art. Simultaneously I worked at an art gallery, assisting artists in selling their work, and installing exhibitions and installations in homes and businesses.
Now I am resuming my art career focused on producing my own art.
Currently my work is primarily oil on canvas. Subjects that have always intrigued me – nature, human relationships with nature, and the sacred beauty of all living things – continue to come to the fore in my landscapes, still lifes and portraiture. Most people recognize symbolism in my work, sometimes before I do myself, with the result that each viewer may have a different and personal interpretation of my paintings.
I seek to take the media of an artist’s craft – wood, canvas, paint and nails – and create something that speaks to the soul.
